Summer Leadership Initiative in Budapest Summer Professional Internship Program: June 1 - July 31. The Professional Internship Program at CEU places interns at a variety of private, public and non-profit organizations operating in areas such as:
Language English is the operational language of the internship program. Practical and Academic Work Students work up to 40 hours a week for 8 weeks. Next to undertaking highly substnative internships, students take credited core seminar, which provides an academic framework to contextualize internship experience and improve students' skills in critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and written and oral expression. At the end of the seminar students are asked to submit a final written report detailing the internship accomplishments, lessons learned, and cultural experience.The core seminar is worth 3 credits awarded by Bard College for easy transfer to any US academic institution. Dates The Summer Professional Internship Program starts on June 1 and ends on July 31. Admission and Placement Process The program works on the basis of rolling admission but early applications are encouraged. Primary consideration is given to students who apply to the program before March 15, 2007. Students are informed about the acceptance to the program within 15 days after the submission of their complete application and receive documents needed to apply for a Hungarian student visa in thier country of residence. Please note: Students accepted to the program must apply for and secure the Hungarian student visa in their countries of residence before coming to Budapest to start their internships. After receiving students' confirmation deposit credited towards the program fee, CEU staff in the US and Budapest will begin working closely with each student to ensure an appropriate internship match, taking into consideration the particular interests and skill sets of the students and the substantive opportunities available in the host organization in Budapest. CEU will help students develop an appropriate resume, cover letter and writing sample; conduct background research on the internship organization; arrange phone interviews between the student and the organization; and join the participant for the on-site interview once the participant arrives in Budapest. CEU staff are available to provide relevant assistance to the students throughout the placement period (March-May) and summer program (June-July). Please note: The internship program is highly competitive. Students are not guaranteed an internship; assignments are developed in concert with CEU and are based on a student’s experience, interest, and internship availability. Accommodation The participants will stay at the CEU graduate dormitory during the time of their summer internship. Cultural Activities During the Summer Professional Internship Program CEU will organize a variety of cultural activities for the students, including a walking tour of the city; trips to concerts and a ballet at the National Opera House; visits to museums and cultural festivals, and trips in and around Budapest. Program Costs
The fee for the Summer Professional Internship Program covers the orientation program, the internship placement, the core seminar with its 3 credits, monitoring and evaluation, and the cultural program. Each student is responsible for her own travel costs, visa fee, housing (either at the CEU dormitory or an apartment in the city) and living expenses. The Summer Professional Internship Program offers financial aid on merit and need-bases to help eligible students in paying for the program. Scholarships are awarded through a highly competitive process. Students can apply for scholarships when they submit their application to the program. Undergraduate students are encouraged to check with their host college to see if any financial aid will transfer to cover the fee for the summer internship program. Applying for the Summer Professional Internship Program Interested students must submit an application form with a statement of purpose, a resume and one recommendation letter. Additional documents must be submitted with the optional scholarship application as specified in the scholarship application form.
